5 Reasons to Replace Your Water Heater This Winter

|

If you have a problem with your water heater during the winter months in Fort Worth, TX, then you may want to have it replaced as soon as possible.  Some issues may need quick repairs from a plumber, while other problems indicate a water heater that could cause damage to your home if it isn’t replaced.

Reasons to Replace Your Water Heater:

  • If you notice that your water heater isn’t doing well and it is over ten years old, then you may need to have it replaced with a more efficient unit. Signs of an old water heater are noises, and it may not heat water well. You may also see rust in your home’s hot water.  A gas water heater may last much less than an electric water heater.  If you have a gas water heater, you may need to replace it after only six to eight years.
  • If your tank water heater is corroded, then it may start to rust. Once your water heater shows signs of rust, it is time to replace it.  If a water heater starts to leak or bursts from the rust eating away at the tank, then you will have significant water damage in your home.
  • A leak is a big problem if it is coming from the tank of a water heater. Have your tank drained and replaced right away so that the leak doesn’t get worse and cause damage to your house.
  • If you consistently have problems with running out of hot water, then it is time to get a bigger tank. You may also want to consider investing in a tankless water heater.  A tankless water heater may be expensive upfront, but these water heaters last 15-20 years.  You will also have hot water on demand with a tankless water heater.
  • If you start to hear banging or knocking sounds from your water heater, then your tank water heater is corroded inside. The corrosion can make the tank leak.  Having it flushed may help the problem.  If flushing the tank doesn’t work, then you should replace it so that your home remains safe.
