Do These 3 Things To Keep Your Plumbing In Top Shape

|

Another year has come to an end and most people use this time of year to start planning for how the next year is going to go.

Making resolutions, scheduling trips, and creating plans for various projects are all activities that households are buzzing with this time of year.

Being proactive and having a plan for the coming year is the best way to make the most of the time. And, the best way to ensure that your plumbing system is in top working order throughout the coming year, is regular maintenance.

While you are making your list of projects and resolutions, add these maintenance tips to ensure the proper maintenance of your plumbing system:

  • Hot water heater service. If you haven’t done so in a while, schedule an appointment for your hot water heater to be inspected and serviced. These appointments include a check of the pressure valve and draining and refilling the tank. This ensures that any sediment that has built up inside is removed, allowing the heating element to work as efficiently as possible.
  • Repair all sealant. Take a minute to check the sealant around your sinks, faucets, bathtubs, showers, and toilets. Make sure it isn’t cracked, dried out, missing, or peeling. This sealant is designed to keep these areas of your plumbing system water tight so to prevent water damage to the wood and materials around them. Replacing and repairing the sealant periodically is a good way to ensure that your plumbing system is in top working order.
  • Test your showerheads. Check the output of the showerheads in your home. If any of them fill a one-gallon bucket in less than 20 seconds, then it is time to start shopping around for a new showerhead. There are many options for more water-efficient showerheads and they come in all kinds of styles. Replacing your showerhead is a great way to improve the water-efficiency of your home.

As we move into 2016 add these tips to your list for plumbing maintenance and ensure that you make it through another year without a plumbing disaster. Any kind of plumbing breakdown can be very stressful and expensive, and the easiest way to prevent the situation is by keeping your system properly maintained.
