4 Don’ts For Your Plumbing System

|

Most people have good intentions as they are moving about their home, using the various appliances and systems that are installed to help them with their chores.

No one ever really thinks about purposefully doing something that would cause damage or harm to their home. After all, your home is an investment and it is a place where you and your family feel safe. So, you want to make sure and take good care of it.

But, there are many things that people do when using their plumbing systems that actually put their home and their plumbing at risk.

No matter what your intentions are, make sure that you and your family are not doing any of these things that could be damaging your plumbing system:

  • Don’t ignore the signs. Even if your plumbing system is giving you signs of trouble – that don’t directly interrupt your use of the system – pay attention to the signs. The quicker you get your plumbing system repaired, the less damage will be done. And, less damage means less cost (usually)
  • Don’t use chemical cleaners. Don’t pour over-the-counter drain clog removers down your drains. While these products are very seductive in their marketing message of “your clog will disappear with ease” – this is just not the case. In fact, the damage that you could be causing your plumbing system far outweighs the benefits.
  • Don’t do too much on your own. Many people enjoy doing projects around the house and, they good at it. But, it is important to know your limits. Don’t take on a plumbing project if you have never done it before and, you don’t have an expert to contact for help. Your plumbing system is an intricate unit and all the parts and pieces work together. If one area is damaged, the other areas will react.
  • Don’t hire just anyone. Make sure to do your due diligence when hiring a plumber. They should be professional and with the proper credentials. Hiring someone based on what they charge could cost you more in the long run.

Protect your plumbing system from additional damage by avoiding these habits. Your plumbing system is very important to the health and wellness of your family and, also to the valuation of your home. Make sure you care for it properly.
